Biography

Violinist Anne McKee hails from Hallowell, ME where she began playing the violin at age four. She currently performs as concertmaster of Augusta Symphony, principal second violinist of Colby Symphony, and section violinist of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. She is especially passionate about chamber music and enjoys concertizing with colleagues around New England, including recent collaborations with Music From Salem and Halcyon Quartet.

Anne holds a Master of Music degree from Boston Conservatory and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College. Some of her musical accolades include first prize in the Judith Elser Concerto Competition, featured soloist with Salem Philharmonic + Augusta Symphony, second prize at Peter E. Tannenwald Young Artist Competition, and finalist in Boston Conservatory’s all-school concerto competition. Her long-term teachers include Betsy Kobayashi, Lydia Forbes, Eva Gruesser, and Katie Lansdale. Additionally, Anne has taken masterclasses with Sergiu Schwartz, Alexi Kenney, Grigory Kalinovsky, and Joseph Lin, as well with the Ying, Jupiter, Lydian, and Ariel quartets. She has enjoyed performing at Bowdoin International Music Festival, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Music From Salem, Fivesparks Music Festival, and most recently the International Portoheli Festival in Greece.

In addition to her performance career, Anne is a dedicated teacher. She is on faculty at Bay Chamber Music Schol, New England Suzuki Institute, and Pineland Suzuki School, where she serves as assistant artistic director and leads Capital Strings, an advanced student ensemble. She finds daily inspiration from her ~30 students, ages 3-80+! Her pedagogy is heavily informed by Suzuki training from Terry Durbin, Laurie Scott, Mark Mutter, and Ann Montzka-Smelser, string pedagogy courses from Rictor Noren at Boston Conservatory, and her own experience as a performer.

Outside of music, Anne is a long-distance runner, cross country skier, letter writer, and cat lover.
